VINLEC Smart Meter Project
PROJECT AT A GLANCE
The VINLEC Smart Meter Project is an initiative to replace all existing electricity meters across St. Vincent and the Grenadines with new smart meters. These meters are equipped with Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology.
It will be implemented in two phases. In phase one, with AMR technology, the new meters will facilitate faster data collection and consistent billing periods. In phase two, with the implementation of AMI technology, customers will have real-time access to their electricity usage information. VINLEC will also benefit through faster outage management capabilities and be able to offer enhanced services like prepaid metering.

FAQs
What is the difference between this new meter and the old one?
The new meter has more advanced features. It allows us to read the meter remotely and more accurately.
Is my bill going to increase?
No, there is no change to the electricity rate and no additional fees. Your bill will show exactly what you use – no more, no less.
Are smart meters safe?
Yes, they are. Smart meters are tested and certified to meet international safety standards. They work just like your current meter but with better technology to improve service and reliability.
Do I need to be at home for the meter change-out?
No, you don’t need to be at home as long as your meter can be accessed easily. If the meter is in a locked area, our technicians will need your assistance to access so your meter can be changed.
How will I know if my meter was changed?
A door hanger with confirmation that the meter was changed will be left at the premises. It will include information on how you can learn more about the project.
